Kúla is an exciting young band from Rose Creek Village in rural Selmer, Tennessee playing traditional Irish and Celtic music.
'Kúla' is from a Sanskrit word meaning 'brotherhood', 'family', and 'woven'. Kúla chose that name because they are family: seven friends that have grown up together, creating a bond that clearly shows in their music. The dynamics of love, friendship and community make a synergy between them on stage. Kúla mixes their unique brand of music and ethnic rhythms together to weave an energetic style that people have called 'fever-pitched' and 'one of the most exciting things happening in the Irish music scene today.' Here is what some people are saying:
"...Kúla's musicianship is above reproach... Joy and passion just absolutely pours forth from their performances... There's a feeling of a celebration always, a great joy and rejoicing in what they do that spreads very rapidly into the audience." - Dudley-Brian Smith, Smithfield Fair
"...They've been bit by the [Irish music] bug. Hard. I certainly don't have to tell them to go for it; they obviously love doing what they're doing, and it really comes across. That, coupled with this all-too-rare sense of community that comes through them is what people respond to when they see Kúla. There's something special going on; part of it is this very vital connection to life and community and great music. What more could a person want?" - Tim Britton, Piper & Pipemaker
So just who are these guys? Kúla is: Paul Hobbs on fiddle; Brian Copenhaver on button accordion and whistles; Ray Tyler on uilleann pipes, mandolin, whistle and fiddle; Joel Dickerson on flute and whistles; David Dickerson on guitar; Matthew Dickerson on bouzouki; Nathan Hobbs on bodhran and perucussions; and Zemar Riggins on ethnic hand percussions.

Kúla and Tröen had a wonderful time playing at this past week's concert for the Ironton Arts Council, and we look forward to playing in your area again. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts who opened up their homes to us and kept us well-fed and taken care of! You were awesome!
Kúla, Tröen and WindDance are all going back into the beautiful Smokey Mountains for the 12th annual Taste of Scotland festival in Franklin, North Carolina.
